A NON-LEAGUE Northumberland football team is hoping a link-up with an American millionaire will turn it into a global fashion icon.

Terrier Wear, as it is being labelled, will hopefully appeal to a global audience and reap major rewards for the Bedlington Terriers Football Club.

Last month The Journal told how billionaire Robert Rich, owner of Rich Products Corporation in America, got behind the football club, sponsoring the shirts, paying for its pitch to be re-seeded and buying a ￡30,000 scoreboard.

The story attracted international coverage as the 488th richest man in the world decided to help the underdog Northumberland side.

Now Mr Rich is hoping that same international interest will propel the Bedlington Terriers to worldwide stardom with all sales going back to help the Terriers.

He has arranged a contract with New York design firm One Source, which is run by a couple of people who used to work for one of his baseball clubs.

He said: “Things are going really well. We have people working on the Terrier Wear for sales around the world.Its wholesale tee shirts business is a supplier of T-shirts and other casual wear to screen printers and distributors. A lot of their job will be to look at the existing range of products. We’re having fun with that. Bedlington Terrier Wear is like the strips and jackets and a lot of the good things they sell.

“People love the Bedlington Terriers – we think they’ll be well received. We will be sending the proceeds back to the club. The logo – they’ll keep that. One Source is currently analysing how they can increase the range, and the company is also producing statistics predicting potential revenue from worldwide sales.

Mr Rich said the club is likely to keep the majority of the current range and only add to it if they feel it is merited.you may also notice that all the Thunder players have on blindingly neon yellow ed hardy shoes. They will also keep the dog logo as it could prove to be a big selling point to the many dog clubs, especially Bedlington Terrier clubs in America.

He said: “We’ll make sure we keep it the same – move on some products but we want to keep the integrity. This is just sponsorship and helping a team.”

Mr Rich’s original aim was to get the brand up and running in time for Christmas but the target is now to have it in the shops in the New Year.
